Newton has an opening for the Chief Planner who will manage the Current Planning Division.

Among the position's responsibilities are the following:
-Manages the Current Planning Division: Assists Director and Deputy Director in day-to-day operations of the Current Planning Division, and oversees operations of all current planning and support staff (currently two land use planners, two preservation planners, and chief zoning code official).
-Oversees all development review processes and staff related to special permits, comprehensive permits, and site plan reviews, as well as historic preservation.
-Directly responsible for the coordination of technical reviews of all large scale development projects. Oversees and reviews the preparation of the draft Council Orders, on all land use petitions, for the City Council. Collaborates with the Housing Division staff when related to affordable housing proposals.
-Coordinates updates to the City's comprehensive plan and other master planning and vision documents.

Among the position's responsibilities are the following:
-Responsible for conducting building, zoning enforcement reviews in connection with all applications for building permits, special permits, site plan reviews and comprehensive permits.
-Additionally, responsible for investigating and following up in writing on all building and zoning complaints that may be filed for either a current development project or any perceived building and zoning violation.
- Chairs the Joint Code Enforcement Task Force.
