    Position: Full time multi-year position as a Geoprocessing and Data
    Visualization Specialist starting July 2017.  This is a 12-month
    appointment with the possibility of extension for two or more years.

    Description: The Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the
    School of Architecture and Planning, MIT is seeking a full-time staff
    person to assist with various GIS, data visualization and graphics
    training needs of the department.  The staff/specialist will assist
    faculty and students across the department with GIS, Data
    Visualization, graphics and media related projects. The Specialist
    will provide teaching support which includes: developing materials and
    exercises for online tutorials and exercises on the Department?s
    DUSPviz website; coordination of workshops; extensive involvement in
    GIS instruction and development of visualization and related media and
    graphic representation skills; assisting with the development of GIS
    courses, and coordinating data for teaching and research.  The
    Specialist will also work closely with the School?s Computer Resource
    Organization (CRON) and the MIT Library GIS lab to ensure coordination
    and compatibility with School and Institute software, hardware, and
    geo-processing services.

    Minimum Qualifications: A graduate (master?s) degree in planning,
    architecture, landscape architecture, geography or related fields is
    required. Minimum 2 years of professional experience using GIS in a
    professional or research environment. We are especially interested in
    candidates that can demonstrate familiarity with the connection
    between design and social sciences. Candidates should be able to
    create compelling visuals while also understanding the statistical
    underpinnings of the data. Candidates should be familiar with database
    systems, such as MS-Access, PostgreSQL, and PostGIS, and comfortable
    working with statistical packages such as R. While the main focus of
    the work will be using ESRI products, we are also looking for
    candidates that have familiarity with open source geospatial software
    and mapping tools, such as QGIS, Mapbox, Leaflet, and CARTO.  Ability
    to use Adobe Creative Suite and knowledge of web site development is
    also essential. Also desired but not mandatory, knowledge of
    architecture programs such as CAD or Rhino.

    The Town of Lexington has an opening for an entry level planner.  Under the direct supervision of the Planning Director and Assistant Planning Director, performs a variety of technical and professional work in the current and long-range planning of the Town.  Examples of duties include involvement in application and development plan review, preparation of reports and exhibits for the Planning Board, conducting research related to planning issues, providing technical support to the planning director and assistant planning director, and other duties as described in detail in the job description available at the link below.  Attendance at Planning Board meetings is required.  Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, or related field from an accredited college or university and one to five years of increasingly responsible planning-related experience.  A Master's Degree is preferred.

    Newton has an opening for the Chief Planner who will manage the Current Planning Division.

    Among the position's responsibilities are the following:
    -Manages the Current Planning Division: Assists Director and Deputy Director in day-to-day operations of the Current Planning Division, and oversees operations of all current planning and support staff (currently two land use planners, two preservation planners, and chief zoning code official).
    -Oversees all development review processes and staff related to special permits, comprehensive permits, and site plan reviews, as well as historic preservation.
    -Directly responsible for the coordination of technical reviews of all large scale development projects. Oversees and reviews the preparation of the draft Council Orders, on all land use petitions, for the City Council. Collaborates with the Housing Division staff when related to affordable housing proposals.
    -Coordinates updates to the City's comprehensive plan and other master planning and vision documents.

    Planning and Economic Development Director

    The Town of Sandwich, MA is seeking a full-time Planning and Economic Development Director who will oversee an extensive program of current and comprehensive planning and economic development initiatives while working closely and cooperatively with other Town departments and elected and appointed officials.  Position reports to the Assistant Town Manager.  The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of planning, zoning, historic preservation and economic development principles and techniques.  Bachelor's degree in regional/urban planning or related field with Master's degree preferred; a minimum five years current and progressively responsible experience in planning and zoning required and supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Position requires strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with a wide array of stakeholder groups is essential.  Salary range is $75,000 - $85,000 commensurate

    Under the supervision of the Comprehensive Planning Manager, to perform a wide variety of planning tasks necessary in support of the day-to-day functions of the Regional Planning Agency.

    Job duties include: conducting land use analyses, transportation and other planning related studies; drafting plan elements (Master Plans, Housing Production Plans, Open Space and Recreation Plans, etc.), preparing bylaw amendments, and managing geo-databases; working with local committees; making presentations at public meetings; coordinating efforts with others, and helping facilitate enhanced planning coordination across the SRPEDD region.  Other duties as assigned.  Attendance at some night meetings required.
